Hello.

Hi! This is my first blog post ever. This is so scary. It feels weird to actually start something that I have been thinking of doing for years, but never had the guts to actually do it. But today, I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. Mostly, I realized that I have way too much free time during the summer and I need a hobby, but when I sat down and started answering questions like “What are you about”, “Why should people read your blog”, and especially “If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished,” I realized that this is even bigger than I thought it was.

I guess I should introduce myself first! My name is Bethany, and I am a school psychologist living in the Kansas City area. I live with my fiancee, Brent (soon to be husband in 3 short months!!), our cat named Kitt and our black lab mix named Hershey. For fun, I like to travel around the country, read, watch Netflix and Hulu, and I am currently learning how to garden. The only item on my bucket list is to visit all 50 states, and I’m about to visit number 32. I first started getting interested in beauty and fashion when I was living in Kentucky for grad school. That’s when I started learning from YouTubers and wishing that could be my job.

For the most part, I am planning for this blog to be about fashion and beauty. Not that I am at all an expert in these topics, but I do spend the majority of my free time scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest and watching Insta-stories and YouTube videos about these subjects. I do travel a few times a year and am an amateur iPhone photographer, so maybe a little bit of that content as well. I just went on a shopping trip with my best friend yesterday, and we found so many good deals. After a shopping trip like that, where you stumble upon so many good finds without cleaning out your life’s savings, it makes me feel so good about myself and so excited to try out my new outfits. It feels so refreshing and inspiring, and I want to help other people feel that way after reading my blog. I also love reading other blogs, especially when they share amazing sales and Amazon finds. It makes shopping so much more affordable and less overwhelming. I hope I can do that for other people as well.

One of the reasons I have never actually followed through with my plan to start a blog is because I have always thought that I’m not creative enough to do something like this. But I was thinking about it today and realized, I actually am creative. I think probably everyone is creative in some way. I do suck at arts and crafts and I have no desire to do DIY projects, and it comes out looking crappy when I do. But that doesn’t mean I’m not creative. I have always loved reading and writing, although I haven’t done much writing for fun since high school. But I have always wished that I could be an author and just write stories for a living, if I had that kind of a creative mind. And in a way, fashion and beauty are ways of expressing creativity. So in those ways, I do feel like this blog can be a creative outlet for me. And I want to be able to inspire other people in this way as well.

So, when I was answering the question about what I would like to accomplish over the next year if I keep up with this blog, I hope to have a blog that is pretty to look at, creative, and interesting to read. It would be cool to also connect with others who have similar interests and taste as I do. But my main goal for the first year of this blog is just to stick to it, to learn a lot about beauty, fashion and blogging, and to gain some confidence. I hope that you find it interesting and inspiring!
