How to Make Your Home Cozy for the Holidays

Can you guys believe Christmas is only a couple of weeks away?? It feels like this year just started and it’s already coming to an end. And in another way, it feels like this year has lasted FOREVER because of obvious reasons. There are a lot of reasons why this year is different, but not everything has to be different. We will still be able to spend quality time with family, even if it’s just your household this year. We will still get to give gifts to our friends and family, even if we can’t see them in person. And we still can put Christmas decorations up and make our homes cozy to make the season still feel special. For today’s post, I am partnering with ReWined Candles to give you some tips on making your home cozy for the holidays. You can use my code “BETHANY” for 10% off your ReWined order.

Tip #1: Use traditional and sentimental holiday decor.

Buying new ornaments each year is so fun. My favorite part of decorating is when I bring out my tubs of decorations I have collected over the years. I have some decorations that were presents or that my mom gave me. I have many ornaments that I’ve had since I was a kid. Those decorations are always the most special to me. It makes me happy that even the ornaments I buy now will be sentimental years from now.

The holiday season is such a sappy, sentimental time of year. I love all the memories that come along with Christmas decorations.

Tip #2: Lighting is everything!

I asked you guys on Instagram what you do to make your home cozy for the holidays. Every person who answered mentioned lights. String lights, tree with lots of lights (especially warm white ones), decorations with white lights, fireplace on, and lots of candles were the most popular responses.

Decorating with warm white lights is the easiest way to make your home feel cozy and festive. Our pre-lit tree has multiple lighting settings, but my favorite option is warm white with slow twinkles. It just feels so sentimental and traditional to me, and it’s so pretty. Another person suggested garlands. I have a garland that goes across the top of our kitchen cabinets, and it also has warm white lights. I like finding ways to incorporate lights throughout the whole house, whether it’s string lights, candles, or both.

When it comes to candles, ReWined are definitely up there on my list of favorites. They are actually made in recycled wine bottles, and most of the scents are inspired by different types of wine. So fun! They have some really great holiday scents too. Some of my favorites are “Poinsettia,” “Spiked Cider,” and “Wine Under the Tree”. On any night, I can guarantee you that I am burning one of those candles. Poinsettia was the first one that I burned through and it didn’t take long, that’s how much I love it! It smells just like a Christmas tree. I love making the house smell like a real tree, even though we have a fake one. I also love their regular scents, like “Merlot,” “Pinot Grigio,” and “Prosecco”. If you’re a wino like I am, you for sure need to try them out! They also make great gifts for Christmas, or really for any time of year. You can also use my code “BETHANY” for 10% off your order.

Tip #3: Play holiday music, even if just in the background.

I usually prefer to listen to the classics, but sometimes will listen to more recent Christmas music as well. I like to put on the fireplace video on Netflix, and have Christmas classics playing on Spotify. That is the definition of a cozy night near the holidays to me.

Tip #4: Collect ornaments when you travel, as well as yearly ornaments

Probably half of the ornaments on our tree are souvenirs from traveling, or ornaments with each year on them. Every year, I like to buy an ornament that is significant for something that happened that year. Like the year we got engaged, or the year we got married. Our 2020 ornament has all of these memories from COVID-19 and quarantine. This will be so interesting to remember years from now and (hopefully) tell our kids about this crazy year. I have ornaments from Colorado, Florida, Mexico, Arizona, California, and other fun trips that I like to be reminded of. Decorating the tree is so much more fun when all of these memories are tied to your ornaments.

Tip #5: Bring the outside indoors.

Along with lights, I also like to fill the house with greenery for the holidays. Of course we have our tree, and I also like to use garlands, wreaths, and sprigs throughout the house. Some of my favorite pieces are my pre-lit garland that goes above the kitchen cabinets (I want to get one for our stairs too), some sprigs and a wreath that both have pinecones and berries in them, and a tiny wreath I use as part of a centerpiece on our dining room table that I put a candle in the middle of. Everything I use is fake. You could also get a real tree, real wreaths, and real garlands/sprigs instead of fake ones.

I hope this post gave you inspiration for celebrating the holidays this year and making your home cozy. Even if you are stuck at home with just your immediate family, or even by yourself. Even though it’s a weird year, the holidays can still be a special time. Wishing you a joyful, memory-filled, cozy holiday season this year!
