I absolutely love the holidays. September through December is easily my favorite time of the year. But honestly, I also love the beginning of a new year. I love packing all of the holiday decorations away and getting back to normal life and what feels like a fresh new home. Even though 2019 was the best year of my life in so many ways (lots of traveling, got a job in the city I live in and that I love, and GOT MARRIED to name just a few highlights), it was also one of the most challenging years mentally and emotionally. I’m ready to say thank you and goodbye to 2019 and get started with the new year.
New year, new goals
I know some people hate on new year’s resolutions, and some people go hardcore for a few weeks and then completely forget about their resolutions by February. For me, I don’t necessarily use the word “resolutions,” but I definitely have goals and plans for the year ahead.
Goal 1: Like I said, this past year has actually been really tough on me, both mentally and emotionally. I like most things about my job now and am starting to get used to my new district and my new role, but it was definitely challenging getting to this point. Changing schools again was really tough on me emotionally, and especially since this time it was a change in states again too. Now that I’m getting more used to it and feeling more comfortable, my stress levels are getting better and I feel like I can focus on the rest of my life again. So one thing I’m working on this next year is leaving work at work and having a life outside of my job. This blog helps of course, and I have another side hustle about to start too that will help take my mind off work. I just don’t want to come home from work drained every day and not be able to be productive for the rest of the evening.
Starting this blog was one of the best things that I did for myself in 2019, and I will continue to post regularly in 2020. Whether that is once a month, once a week, or multiple times a week, it will depend on my motivation and where I’m at in my life honestly. I will say, it is tough to keep up with a fashion blog when you’re on a budget! So you may see a lot of lifestyle content and less fashion, but either way I will continue to post as much as I can. Be sure to let me know if there are any specific topics you want to see on the blog!
Goal 2: Another thing I am working on in 2020 is focusing more on my mental health. This is something I have already been working on over the past month or so, but will continue in the new year. Now that I have found a therapist I really like, I feel like I am making some progress in this area and definitely want to continue that progress. The main way I am focusing on my mental health right now is by putting more effort into my physical health. I bought myself an Apple Watch for Christmas, and this is really helping me to be more mindful of my activity levels and I am working on being less sedentary and working out regularly. I also finally found a workout that I actually enjoy, so lately I have been working out in my living room using videos on YouTube. Either I will do one of those videos, or I will go on a walk. Either way, my goal is to get 30 minutes of exercise in each day. I also need to drink more water, so that goes along with this goal too.
Goal 3: The third thing I am focusing on for the new year is paying off all of our debt. Over the past few months I have finally gotten better with my spending, and mainly we will be focusing on paying off debt from the wedding this next year. Again, this is part of the reason why I am starting a side hustle so we can pay off the debt faster and start saving some money too. This is a big goal for me since I have always been really bad with money. I feel like this is a goal for me every year, but this is the first time that I feel like I am ready to actually accomplish this goal. Keep me accountable on this, guys. I need all the help I can get with this one!
I know these must seem like pretty generic goals, but they are the most important to me right now. If you have some of the same goals, be sure to reach out and let me know so that we can work towards our goals together! The best way to accomplish your goals and resolutions is to keep each other accountable, so let me know some of your goals for the new year! Even if they are completely different from mine, we can still help each other stay on track throughout the whole year.
